Food Porn of Iceland

As promised from a foodie, I share what food we ate in Iceland!

Icelandic lamb soup, very homely and peppery plenty of Lamb chunks! Definitely will want to make this home!!

Peppered whale steak from an Icelandic restaurant Jamie Oliver recommended

Halibut with lobsters in lobster sauce what I had very yummy ^.^

Hákarl - Icelandic delicacy sharks meat, reaks of ammonia and tastes of ammonia >.<

Wrapper from a hot dog with an Icelandic Gordon Ramsey!

Lobster soup from the harbour in a quirky restaurant called the Sea Baron, as it has been opened for 80 years, hopefully it can still stay open, as there's talks from the council that it will get torn down

This was truly amazing fish and chips from the harbour, fresh fish caught on the day fried in breadcrumbs, large portions to and the fish just crumbles that's how fresh it was! Along with that yummy potato wedges, mini lobster tails and salads

Overall, minus the shark meat all the food was amazing and the price was pretty much to london prices for the large meals, but soups were not too terrible, about £5? Icelandic currency is confusing

Spontaneous Getaway!

photo.php.jpgSo I decided to take a spontaneous long weekend trip to Iceland! A friend of mine asked if I fancied going a just over a week before I went; so I thought why not! I could do with a mad trip away from city and the crap hitting me at work, I needed to get away!!

Landed and arrived to Keflavik Airport about Midnight, getting on the bus, I was quite dark and I could just smell the salty air, reminded me of the beach; nicer air compared to London!

4hours sleep of course everyone’s fussy minded in a daze; despite the lack of sleep during the trip and early morning, naptime was always a good call on the bus, especially the Golden Circle tour!

Visiting one of Reykjavik’s power plants, the air stank of Sulphur, passing green houses that grew Reykjavik’s fruit and vegetables including bananas! The island can afford it as their electricity and hot water Since Iceland sits on geothermal plates so free hot water!

Moving over to the Geysers. Really interesting, couldn’t believe how blue some of the pools were and was really exciting seeing the Geyser blow a lot of steam surrounded us!  Next location was to the Gull Foss waterfalls before that we checked out a smaller waterfall and loved the sign saying no peeing next to the hut!! Was seriously amazing the water was crashing so fast, around there was still ice around us. Was good to have food in the restaurant yummy lamb soup, very homely tasting ^.^

Finally over to the Thingvellir National Park, didn’t look like much of a park as the tree aren’t very tall, and seeing the divide of the two continent plates North American and Eurasian – it’s quite a big gap, I couldn’t get over how wide the crack was and how clear the water was, I would have wanted to dive into the water! But this place is where the Vikings used to have their annual assemblies where different tribes gathered with political issues…. Enough history from me, as I’m not the best at it!

The Blue Lagoon is another amazing thing so relaxing, blue and waters heating up to 38C and free silicate salt masks to exfoliate! Was so cold in the beginning especially the wind chill >.< but we dunked ourselves in the water and went through the water gate as oppose to the double doors and to the pool!
Shame we didn’t see the Northern Lights, due to crap weather conditions but this was a really fun getaway from all the hustle and bustle of Capital City, definitely would recommend as a place to check out and explore ^.^

I shall do a food porn blog of Iceland food!

Nintendo & Retro!

Oh my God!!! As I was browsing away in the activity Bible that is Timeout online thinking, what interesting activities can I do tomorrow daytime before me spa in the afternoon? Then I encountered something very enticing!!!

The Nintendisco!!

Something very retro for the Old Skool Kids, playing on the classic games consoles of SNES, Sega Saturns, mega drives. DJs Mixing the classic gaming tunes for a fun club night, sounding like a very cheap night including free entry out over in Funky East London

So a possibility of me attending to something like this - loophole on the resolution! Not clubbing more gaming!! hahahahaa

Ice Music @ Somerset House

I had been reading in the newspapers this week about this event happening at Somerset House, so I thought why not check it out, as I was intrigued it looked quite interesting.

This was only happening for three days in London; Norwegian Artist called Terje Insunget created music out of pieces of ice including making an ice trumpet out of 300 year old ice. He has been working on this project for around 10 years now and touring the world enlightening people with the Norwegian music.

I went to see the film installation first called ‘The Idea of the North” showing beautiful snowy landscapes and music played with the ice instruments, I felt this was very moving and felt I escaped to Narina. Unfortunately the tickets were sold out to see the performance live, but I decided to listen outside the igloo tent, as I was curious to see what the instruments were like.

The music was very moving with the haunting female vocals, chiming, drumming, and crunching sounds all from instruments made out of ice it was so fascinating, mysterious and seem so clever making music out of natural resources

I really enjoyed the performance though it only lasted 30min, since the instruments were made of ice, save them warming up and melting. Despite listening from outside the tent fortunately I was still able to hear the music from outside- well save me £7! Haha!

Check out these video links to see and hear what it was like

January Uprisings

Well 2011 we are in now, I’m impressed that I’ve managed to keep doing this New Years Resolution of blogging which I have enjoyed doing and am going to continue doing as it’s fun to document my anecdotes!

January 2011 is here now, I am still getting used to writing 2010 in files accidentally >.< Everyone’s back to work getting back into things and already first day back to work has been stressful!
Back to commuting in the tubes; leaving the house on the Tuesday, I got very confused as I left the house it was very dark! I had no clue what was happening until I ready the paper – Solar Eclipse. Already the joys and typical of Tubes first day back to work - minor delays as somebody tried to kill themselves in the morning but failed so ran up the tunnels on the opposite side of the line I was catching sigh dark things always happen in January

More “Fun” of things to land in in 2011, increase in the Tube fares my travel card has now risen by £11.70!!! What’s hurting quite a majority of people as well is the VAT now 20%  很心痛呀!for those who don’t ready Chinese, this is a Chinese saying meaning Very heart breaking =.=

So all these dark things are happening meaning I personally have to make cuts to make ends meet, as my pay isn’t the healthiest, I’ve asked for a performance review but they don’t do them till April tax year time sigh so time begin the personal cutbacks and personal 2011 New Years Resolutions, as there are going to be some expensive upcoming adventure I need to save up for…

-       * Cutting way back on the partying! So only allowed to party once a month – 2 months
-       * Cutting back on eating out (you don’t realize it but it’s expensive eating out, I don’t understand how people are able to do it so much) most twice a month
-       * Social activities are now cutting back and endorsing into things called “Ju Fan Zai” sessions (cooking in with friends, much cheaper & sober)
-       * EBAY! Needing to part with unwanted hoarded crap, though there’s more in Devon than London…
-       * Alcohol consumption will be cut so people will miss the crazy pisshead I get to be, will admit was proud to pole dance in the drunken state I was in Halloween – was a eye opener for people

I’m sure I’ll make more but these will be the main ones I am determined to stick to 3/5 of them, London’s an expensive city to survive in!

Naughty but Amazing

hehehe, ok this is the last post for today, but consider it compensating for lack of blogging in December

I decided to catch up with a friend my Lor Por no 3 for drinks and something sweet around my area. I first really had no idea where would be good to go as Tooting lacks nice cafes, with a lot of eatery/ restaurants. As I was on the way to meet her, I remembered there was a dessert place I really wanted to try out near Tooting Bec, After's.

It's quite a modern ice cream parlour very pink & black with AMAZING looking desserts!! So many different types and styles of ice cream!!

Food Porn Bliss ^.^

Unfortunately I'm being a bit crap with technology so late in the evening, I couldn't be bothered to rotate the photos properly, so appreciate it sideways! hehehe

Disney 50

I really can't wait now it's 2011. After looking at an article in Stylist Magazine, the Disney 50 comes to Southbank.

In a celebration of Disney producing it's 50th Animated film Tangled, Southbank starts showing all 50 of the animated films from Mid January onwards ^.^

I was telling this news to my Best mate, she was so excited as well, we even had a little game in seeing who was able to name the most Disney films, annoyed us so much on some of the films we missed, we only managed to name about 15-20 films! >.<

But our favourite and nostalgic film watching together is the Classic Little Mermaid ^.^ singing a long and our most favourite bit is Scuttle singing hehheeheheh, aww nostalgia

So I suppose I will be spending a fair bit of time in Southbank on the Weekends, you'll know where I'll be!

2011 BEGINS....

Well I will have to admit I can't believe it's now 2011, a year has gone by so quickly!

The long Christmas holiday was indeed a blissful one spending it in Devon with the folks, winding down to the slower easier pace, compared to the fast track rat rat of London

Was enjoyable to do nothing apart from relaxing and catching up with friends and indulging too much!

It's great to have time catching up, caught up even though via phone to two of my best friends from back in Secondary school times for a catch up, couldn't believe one of them has recently had a baby and the other has got engaged and still is as eccentric as ever!!

I was catching up with a good College friend and clubbing buddy Laura in Exeter too, she made me gain my Devonshire twang back for a while as her accent is very strong ^.^ She shared gossip with me about the devon happenings of the familiar people we know, some people had kids, got married, still with awful other halves when they should have broken up with them a long time ago *sigh* though, I suppose some people just really need that companionship.

Hmm.... I think it's so bizarre how some people are settling down already, but I suppose it just depends on one's lifestyle and way of life!
