Shifting into gear with the Fashion Career

So this year career wise it had been quite grey and full of uncertainty. Fortunately when it came to February, fashion week was round the corner and good timing, Wendy managed to get me in at Daks to be an assistant for 2 weeks helping out press and the design team. Sure some of it involved mundane tedious jobs but at least it kept me busy and I was getting a bit of income from it.

Fortunately after my 2-week stint, my recruitment agency managed to find me a temp tech job over in Camden with a supplier so at least it’s something related to my specialism, keeping my foot in there whilst finding the permanent job.

Few months later, still temping with the Supplier in Camden few rejections after interviews and no call backs from excessively flinging my CV to the vacancies it got frustrating. There were jobs that really caught my eye however I was still Junior or lacked experience in the Retail environment to work for a brand. The supplier where I had been temping at offered me a job; however there was another job I had my passionate eye on – All Saints.

I was so so determined to land this Job, sure the pay wouldn’t have been as much as the Supplier, but I was sick and fed up with working for a Supplier environment and wanted to get my foot into working for a brand, but how could I if nobody would employ me?!

When I told my mum about the dilemma, she was saying take the job with the higher pay – The Supplier. But I really didn’t want a permanent role with the company; I knew there would be no progression and the product is very dull for me – mature womens jerseywear

Where as working with a brand, I am working as the customer, and get to work with a collection and can see the process of the collection grow and develop. Whereas with a Supplier, it’s just an order of the type of style the Retail Buyers have placed an order on, sure they may change the colourway and print, but you don’t see a proper collection.

Fortunately there was light at the end of the Tunnel, I finally been offered a job at a company I feel I’ll be passionate towards, sure, it’s only contract but at least it’ll be good experience and a step into the retailer environment! ^.^ 

Something that doesn't stop me smiling

I am usually quite an optimistic person, but because of the recent events of weather and new responsibilities of owning a flat(will get round to doing a little post of it) I really need to breathe! 


As the saying goes, "Keep calm and carry on" need to do it But there's always something that cheers me up - The Minions from Despicable Me and theyre Banana clip! 


 Always puts a smile on my face and I'm never tired of watching it! ^.^ 

Brixton Village

The reason I wanted to head into Brixton today was to check out the Farmer's Market I was given a flyer for last week. I was pretty curious and intrigued to check it out, however when I got there with my friend it was just along the street by the Brixton Recreation Centre, a few stalls selling vegetables, plants and a few food stalls - quite disappointing in my eyes, should have headed over to Columbia Market instead. 

 As my friend Di was going to catch up with some girlfriends in the area for lunch, I tagged along, though we had 2 hours to kill beforehand. So we took a walk around Brixton Village. Di has lived in Brixton for over 10 years and has only recently discovered this gem with me, this little hub is so quirky with many independent eateries and boutiques. Brixton is slowly getting quite upmarket though there are still the typical shops selling meats, fish, fruits and veg, especially on Electric Avenue 

We wanted to find a place to sit for a drink to keep us warm as the winds were so cold today >.<" but we were so attracted to this eatery where the tables had a big toaster where people toasted their bread, so it's fresh and warm. We decided to try it out, small brunch snack of DIY toast for £2.50 with 4 slices of different flavoured breads from normal white to a bit more fancy olive oil and mixed herb bread and many condiments to choose to spread onto the toast -^.^- there was also the option of having breakfast things such as scrambled eggs, bacon etc to go with the bread for extra cost.

Very fun quirky place for Breakfast - Brunch and the environment is so relaxed and not too expensive

Once Di and I met up with the other girls and had a little wander, we got hungry again and headed back into The Village for more food, this time for some Japanese Okominyaki, Japanese savoury pancake with vegetables and assorted fillings you can add into it with a slightly sour sauce, mayonnaise and flakes of Dashi and seaweed (-^.^-) Di and I had been craving it hehehe!

This little eatery was so lovely with simple retro Japanese decorations, and I was obsessed with playing with this wooden toy with a ball that was on the table, quite a difficult game to play with limited space! The food was very yummy and so filling, only £10 PP can't complain ^.^

Need to try out the other restaurants in the village now!!

Jazz, Blues and Rock ‘n’ Roll

It started out last Sunday when spontaneously a friend of mine asked whether I was up for lunch at Ronnie Scott’s in Soho for her birthday as there was a spare ticket. I didn’t bat an eyelid to say no to the opportunity!! Very spontaneous, fortunately I was up from an evening out the night before and the clocks rolled forward!!

Was quite interesting and different in a good way to attend a Sunday lunch event in a Jazz Club; the venue is very dark, cozy and intimate plus the tickets are cheaper compared to a Friday or Saturday night (yay!).  Elaine Delmar with Brian Dee’s Quartet was the act for the afternoon; her voice is amazing, and easy listening. A very impressive songstress for 73 years old!

Near the end Elaine actually forgot the words to a song and shouted, “oh shit!!” absolute lol though I suppose accidents happen to the best of us! Fortunately there were no kids! This was my first time attending to a live Jazz gig, and personally I prefer the more up tempo tunes, the more slow soulful numbers were too smooth, I was drifting >.<

Next was Saturday night just gone, my good friend Mimi came down to London for the weekend. She wanted to go to a Jazz venue, I told her that these kind of venues are very niche and involve tickets in advanced for the gig, there aren’t many pop in sit in venues, (well I haven’t found any yet). I suggested this Blues club I keep passing on the way to work in Camden called The Blues Kitchen.

We went in with an open mind, only £5 entry after 9pm, which I find is quite reasonable, there’s a live band that plays covers, and DJ playing a mix of Blues, Soul and Rock “n” Roll. It was very fun, we all had a good time, drinks were not extortionate compared to Mayfair and good deal they had, Jagerbombs 3 for £10, Happy days!!! ^.^

Dancing the night away, with an eclectic mix of people and doing the twist, though Mimi said I danced like a Hamster (-.-“) oh well, I was having fun!! I was impressed with the band, with their lead guitarists rift solos and the Jazz player; very talented bunch

I would definitely recommend this place as a somewhere different away from the typical clubbing scene, a bit more relaxed and cheaper on the wallet!

Cream Puffs in London!!!

Whenever I went to London fabric shopping during uni days, I always loved going to a place called Beard Papa on Oxford Street for their delicious cream puffs in many flavour -^.^- But now I'm so sad as it closed 2-3years ago :'(

As I was making my way down to Embankment to cross the bridge to do a spot of Egg Hunting on Southbank, I noticed a cream puff shop!!


This shop is called Chewy Junior, there are quite a few flavours of their cream puffs and they do mini ones too!! ^.^ 


Though the Puff itself isn't as light compared to Beard Papa's, the flavours are quite inventive and the Puff is indeed a bit chewy in a good way, Hence the name Chewy Junior


Definitely recommend getting minis so you get to sample the many flavours in bite size pieces (^.^ )

London's Big Egg Hunt 2012

Two Years ago it was The Elephant Parade, this year in the lead up to Easter it's an Egg Hunt!! Over 200 eggs designed by many artists scattered around London, fortunately in the Zone 1 area compared to everywhere with the elephants!

There's also an Egg based on Where's Wally that moves around London, fortunately I've found him thanks to my friends on Day 3 ^.^ 

This is a very fun and fit activity to do which is free!! (o^^o) it's also great to do with friends and family, good way to bond

Problem I'm finding with the eggs, they will not only be on a Stand, they'll also be hanging/ suspended in the air, so you'll have to literally keep you eyes peeled and search high & low!

All for charity, if you text the code on each plaque with the egg, you also get put into the prize draw of winning the 500g Faberge Egg worth £100,000

Back on the blogging

It has been quite a while since I have last blogged, as I have recently moved into a new place called home & however it has taken about a month for the Internet to finally arrive. It has been a painful being disconnected with the world, fortunately can do basics on my phone, though limited.

A fair bit has happened with a thing called London Fashion Week, even though it was a bit dry for the partying sense – budget cuts and all, but the clothes looked pretty good for Forthcoming AW12

So back to the blogging world for me!
